Interpreters are funded by the Department of Justice and co-ordinated between interpreting services and the Court Service.  This is only in the case of criminal matters being brought by the DPP, for consultations with Probation services, and in some Family Law Cases.  Orders are sometimes made to pay interpreters in alcohol/drug abuse counselling in related criminal matters.

                                                         Health

Case by case arguments are needed to secure funding for interpreting in public hospital clinics. There is no funding for GP or Dental visits. In exceptional cases applications for funding for GP or similar visits may be considered by the Health Service Executive (HSE).

Job Interviews and Job Coaching

FÁS will pay a standard grant for interpreters in job interviews and initial job coaching or training up to 3 hours.  An application/claim form must be completed by the interpreter, the interviewee (deaf) and the employer.  The interpreter will return the form to FÁS for payment.
